Sprouts is a WSN platform designed for deployment in harsh industrial environments. Sprouts unique attributes include a modular architecture in the hardware and software architecture, low power operation, rugged metallic enclosure, wireless network standard, wireless energy harvesting, remote triggering, and plug-and-play (PnP) sensor module interface.

Plug and Play (PnP) services
Our Sprouts PnP protocol provides a unique customization method using sensor modules, which allows the user to implement custom modules for specific applications. Custom sensor modules can be interchanged, reused, or combined to make new applications as needed.

Energy Harvesting Capability
Energy harvesting is implemented to monitor energy levels and control wireless power transfer (WPT), remote wake up trigger, and recharging a backup battery when excessive harvested energy is available.

Zigbee based solution
Sprouts is based on Zigbee communication stack, a low-power wireless standard that can be easily installed and allowed to run on harvested energy or batteries for years. In addition, Sprouts nodes can can be arranged in many network topologies (e.g., star, mesh, and tree)

Ultra low power consumption
We modified the default Zigbee network stack to significantly reduce the energy consumption during network discovery and rejoining attempts. We utilize our benchmarking solution on Sprouts to effectively reduce power consumption by an order of magnitude when compared to the default settings of Zigbee stack.

Small footprint
Sprouts sensor nodes come in cylinder shape with 25mm in diameter and 10mm in height. Also, nodes are designed into cubical shape with 20mm x 20mm x 10mm.
